Handsets running the Windows Mobile operating system are becoming a popular choice for both business people and consumers alike. Windows
The latest iteration of the Microsoft mobile OS is called Windows Mobile 6 and is divided into three main versions: Windows Mobile 6 Classic, Windows Mobile 6 Standard and Windows Mobile 6 Professional.
Windows Mobile 6 Classic is installed on to PDA devices that don't have phone connectivity, Windows Mobile 6 Standard is installed on smart phones without touch screens and Windows Mobile 6 Professional is installed on to PDA devices that feature phone connectivity and touch screens.
They all let you synchronise the contacts, emails, tasks and favourites with your Windows PC, give you access to Windows Live and Outlook on the go and support VoIP, amongst other things. But before you buy any old Windows Mobile device, you might want to take into consideration how you're going to use it.
If you're an emailer, then you're probably going to want a Qwerty keypad and if you're an Internet fan then a touch screen will come in handy. Size is another issue. Some Windows Mobile devices can be rather chunky, so make sure you get a hands on with your potential new purchase before you buy it.
Finally, if you've never owned a Windows Mobile phone before, you might want to test out the user interface, as it's rather different to anything else on the market and takes some getting used to.

| Review summary | With its large screen, slick design and slide-out keyboard, the S710 is one of the most impressive Windows smart phones we've seen in a while. The lack of 3G support and sometimes sluggish performance are disappointments, but despite these shortcomings, the S710 is still a very desirable handset Read full review Full specification |
E-TEN's glofiish X500 is an accomplished Pocket PC with GPS antenna, Wi-Fi and FM radio among the standout features. It has good battery life and a range of software extras generous enough to make some other Pocket PC vendors blush Read full review Full specification |
The iPAQ rw6815 Personal Messenger is a short and stubby Pocket PC kitted out in silver. It feels comfortable to hold, and does a good job. It'll even tell you the name of whoever is trying to call you -- but we'll give the strange screen protector a miss, thanks Read full review Full specification |
The Treo 750v is the first Windows Mobile device from Palm we have seen in the UK, and the company simply had to do well with it. On the usability front it has succeeded, though there are some things that annoy us -- like the small screen Read full review Full specification |
