GamePark Holdings GP2X

It uses Linux, so you can make your own applications for it, and it runs emulators, so there's loads of old-school games out there. It's not accessible, but it rewards dedication

The DS Lite makes the same fashion statement for videogame systems that the iPod did for MP3 players -- slimmed down and brightened up, it's a beauty. It may not have the multimedia capabilities of the Sony PSP, but it can play games online and the games themselves are colourful, innovative and lots of fun -- and the DS Lite is much cheaper
