Sony PSP (slim version)
A recent patent update sparked speculation that the new PSP would have a swivel screen and mobile phone capabilities, but Sony revealed a more modest PSP redesign at E3. The new handheld console is smaller, slimmer and lighter

Nintendo Wii
Underplaying processing power and using a strange new controller setup could have been major mistakes. But we think Nintendo has pulled it off. It's strange, it's new and it's not as powerful as other consoles, but the Wii succeeds in its primary mission: fun

GamePark Holdings GP2X
If the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP are the cool kids of the portable gaming world, the GP2X is the geeky lad with NHS specs and corduroy trousers. It uses Linux, so you can make your own applications for it, and it runs emulators, so there's loads of old-school games out there. It's not accessible, but it rewards dedication

Nintendo DS Lite
The DS Lite makes the same fashion statement for videogame systems that the iPod did for MP3 players -- slimmed down and brightened up, it's a beauty. Microsoft Xbox 360
The first of the next generation of videogame consoles, the Xbox 360 certainly sets the bar high for Sony and Nintendo. With spectacular graphical ability and a host of multimedia features, it'll fly off the shelves this Christmas. Having said that, the launch games are nothing to shout about -- it may be worth waiting for better titles

Nintendo Game Boy Micro
It's been 16 years since Nintendo invented handheld gaming with the Game Boy, but the Micro is more of a repackaging than a revolution. The third iteration of the hugely successful Game Boy Advance format, it offers a tiny form factor and a brighter screen -- but it doesn't cost much less than the more advanced DS

Gizmondo Europe Gizmondo
Although it falls miserably short of the glorious PSP in most respects, the Gizmondo has a certain homegrown British charm. It has some promising features that need software support to gain consumer interest, but in the meantime the Gizmondo looks likely to remain a curate's egg for gadget fans

Sony PSP
PSP stands for PlayStation Portable, but it might as well stand for 'Nintendo, you have a problem'. One of the most highly anticipated tech products to hit stores in recent memory, the Sony PSP largely delivers on its remarkable promises
