What is it: A portable playback device for TV, movies, photos and MP3s
What we think: When it works, the Goodmans provides a much clearer picture than some other handheld media players. But we found the device’s performance temperamental and the playback format very restricting

| Review summary | It’s not the prettiest handheld media centre, but the Goodmans' screen is brighter than the Samsung YH-999s and it can record from a live source. Unfortunately our experience of the GPRD40 was sullied by a schizophrenic dimming of the LCD backlight at times, and two crashes. You also need to encode all your video externally because the Goodmans only plays its native MPEG-4 codec. This can potentially take many hours Read full review |
Samsung's BD-P1000 is the first Blu-ray player to arrive in the UK. High-definition image quality scales new heights using the 1080p format, but new technology always comes with an inflated price tag Read full review |
Pioneer's DV-989 is a top-of-the-range DVD player featuring cutting-edge technology and connectivity. The price will rule it out for many but, as a partner for a compatible high-end system, very few players offer the same performance with both movies and music Read full review |
We've tested several stand-alone video players, but the Mvisto trounces them all. Its support for a huge range of video codecs is reason enough to lust after the device. Not content to stop there, Mvisto have designed an on-screen navigation system that puts most media centres to shame Read full review |

Well-specified and its picture quality is first-rate, but it doesn't quite sound awesome enough to justify its cost
Sony BDP-S760
At last, we have the awesome Blu-ray player we've so long suspected Sony was capable of making
