Evesham iPlayer Video
Typical Price £299
What we think: The ability to playback MPEG-4 video from a memory stick is impressive, but for that price we'd like to see a second Freeview tuner

I'm Ian Morris with cnet.co.uk and this is Evesham's £300 iplayer, an upscaling Freeview PVR that can also play media from your home network.
The iplayer features an 80 gigabyte hard disk, enough to store a little under 80 hours TV. A single Freeview tuner and the facility to playback a multitude of digital video formats including MPEG-4 and WMV either via your home network, or from USB memory stick or hard drive.
The front of the player is simple and has no buttons, there are three status LEDs that keep you informed about what the machine is doing.
To the side of the machine there is a slot for a smart card, for access to Top Up TV's pay channels and a USB socket where you can insert either a memory stick or external USB hard drive. It is then possible to either playback files from the USB drive, or copy programmes from the player’s hard drive for watching on a PC, or to archive and burn to DVD.
The rear of the machine has an Ethernet socket for connection to your home network and to enable the machine to connect to the internet to download podcasts and listen to internet radio. There are also two SCART sockets, analogue and digital audio out and an HDMI socket for sending the players upscaled Freeview pictures to your HD ready television.
I'm Ian Morris, and this is the Evesham iplayer.
The Evesham iplayer promises a lot but at too high a price. The ability to playback MPEG-4 video from a memory stick is impressive, and the HDMI out is always a welcome replacement for Scart in a high-definition world, however, for that price we'd like to see a second Freeview tuner
