Typical price: £250
What is it: Fastest-loading Blu-ray player so far
What we think: Offers excellent picture quality and load times, but is slightly let down by its media-playback capability

We like:
Quick load times; sleek design; Wi-Fi dongle included
We don't like:
No MKV support; design won't suit everyone; rather expensive
CNET UK judgement:
The Samsung BD-P3600 is a terrific Blu-ray player and the fastest on the market, loading discs faster than the PlayStation 3. We like pretty much everything about it, apart from its slightly limited codec support for MKV and DivX-HD playback. Here, the machine is bested by LG's BD370, which plays everything and looks gorgeous too. The BD-P3600 is still a worthwhile addition to your home cinema though, especially if you have an older AV receiver that needs help understanding lossless audio codecs

Well-specified and its picture quality is first-rate, but it doesn't quite sound awesome enough to justify its cost
