What is it: DVD home cinema system with 6.1 speakers
What we think: On the expensive side, but unrivalled specification and performance

We like:
Futuristic design; video upscaling; 6.1 speakers and processing; flexible positioning; SACD support; ease of use; excellent sound and picture performance
We don't like:
Separate connector box; 'wireless' speakers still require limited connections; no USB connectivity
You might also need:
HDMI cable; component cable; coaxial digital audio cable
CNET.co.uk judgement:
Philips' HTS9800W is about as good as home-cinema systems get at this price. It offers a stylish design and an advanced specification that doesn't sacrifice picture or sound performance
Philips HTS9800W History

Donned with a futuristic design and a top-class specification, Philips' HTS9800W is a feisty contender for the home cinema system crown -- but it's not cheap. Is it top dollar or do you want more bang for your buck?

A nice looking system, which sounds great but has some build quality issues and isn't the best value
