Typical price: £240
What is it: A 40GB USB hard disk that can play movies, photos and music on a TV
What we think: The Mvisto's impressive interface and flawless playback of almost every video codec going makes it our top choice out of the current batch of stand-alone hard disk AV players

We like:
Pocket size; intelligent interface; simple operation; wide support for video formats
We don't like:
Having to plug USB drives into a power supply for TV playback -- when will manufacturers include USB on their TVs?
You might also need:
A good taste in movies is all that can improve this near-perfect player
CNET.co.uk judgement:
We've tested several stand-alone video players, but the Mvisto trounces them all. Its support for a huge range of video codecs is reason enough to lust after the device. Not content to stop there, Mvisto have designed an on-screen navigation system that puts most media centres to shame
