Intempo Fusion preview

The Intempo Fusion is a £99 DAB/FM-enabled iPod dock for the bedside, with a built-in sub woofer and portable design. It'll be on sale from mid October, but we got an exclusive pre-production model and got to test it out. It's definitely ideal for quiet bedroom listening, we found, as louder and heavier sounds weren't as good as softer ones

The iPod doesn't have a radio, let alone DAB, so an iPod speaker system with a digital radio built in has to be a good idea -- Intempo's RDI docking system is that good idea, and it offers a sleek design, good reception and impressive sound quality for the price

The DMX-50 calls on PURE's expertise both in small speaker-cabinet design, and in higher-end digital-to-analogue conversion circuitry. It integrates a CD player and a 40W RMS amplifier, looks more expensive than it is, and offers rewind and pause of DAB playback. Sound quality is good too, as far as DAB allows

Sony's CMT-GPX9DAB micro system is cheap and cheerful, with reasonable, low-volume sound quality, good reception and lots of preset slots. However the controls are unintuitive and overly reliant on the remote, and we have no idea what a tape deck is doing on it

The Denon D-M35DAB Micro Component System is a good all-rounder, and would be great for either the bedroom or the living room. With CD, tuner and various connection options on the back, you can use it as a stand-alone unit or integrate it into your home-entertainment system
