I have read two reviews that have knocked this unit for lack of features and a lower quality bass heavy sound.

The unit comes pre-set at full sound in the EQ section. This gives a bass heavy sound and makes drums and bass very audible. After turning this off and having a little play with the custom setting and using my usual headphones i was more than happy with the result. So no problems there. I haven't tried the philips ones.

As for features what more do you want. It plays MP3's, you can see the tracks, it has an EQ section and shuffle. The voice recorder i don't need and I hate radio. If you need it to make your tea and wipe your butt to then maybe you should put your laptop in your rucksack and run some headphones from that.

As for file support there are too many now anyway. I worked in a studio for years and have always used MP3's and will always use them. They sound more than good enough for personal stereo use and with 2Gb is file size really a problem!? I can't see why anyone would use anything else.

If you don't like the sound of this player then you must be of the many that like the horribly boxy or overly treblely sound that seems to dominate the market at the moment. Pop production is the worst for this and most players make it worse!!

I would have given it a 10 but i'm sure some ham fisted person wouldn't have been as careful as i was threading the lanyard and may have damaged the player. Not really the players fault that some people are heavy handed.

Overall this player is a gem and i hope people don't get put off by the oddly negative reviews.
