Typical price: £245
What is it: 30GB portable video player with built-in camera and camcorder
What we think: It's extremely versatile, but it makes a far better video player than camcorder

We like:
Great design; plethora of features; top-notch photo, video and audio quality; good value
We don't like:
No FM radio; interface can be confusing at times; recording accessories cost extra
CNET.co.uk judgement:
The uberversatile Archos 404 camcorder is a good option for anyone looking to buy a compact portable video player with a nice screen. It's an okay convergence device, but it makes a far better video player than camcorder
