What is it: Pencil-thin flash MP3 player with 4GB memory and a 38mm colour screen
What we think: The Apple iPod nano is thin, beautiful and feature-filled, but 4GB may not be enough for many power users

We like:
Gorgeous, superslim design with bright, photo-friendly screen; easy to operate; works seamlessly with iTunes and iTunes Music Store, which has the world's largest selection of music; nimble processor and system performance; no skipping, thanks to flash memory
We don't like:
Unspectacular battery life; though durable, device scratches easily; pricey in terms of gigabytes per pound; 4GB maximum capacity is not a good fit for many power users; no sought-after extra features such as FM radio; no A/V-out; doesn't work with Camera Connector
You might also need:
Better earbud headphones; digital photos; protective case
CNET UK judgement:
Thanks to its limited capacity, the gorgeous Apple iPod nano isn't for everybody, but it sets the standard for MP3 players to come
