What is it: High-end 13.5-megapixel compact for enthusiasts
What we think: The P6000 looks great on paper but has too many weak points

We like:
4x wideangle zoom; PASM exposure modes; vibration reduction
We don't like:
Noise reduction; poor optical viewfinder; sluggish responses
CNET UK judgement:
For a compact, the P6000 is pretty good, but if you buy it thinking it's going to match a dSLR you're going to be disappointed. The responses aren't as fast, the viewing system is inferior and the control layout is less efficient. And you can get this level of picture quality without spending anywhere near this amount of cash

Fuss-free compact that takes good photos given the price. Just don't expect too much from it
Canon Digital IXUS 990 IS
Good camera, but it's underspecified and overpriced, even compared to other IXUS models

Its lens and image quality aren't great, but it's a good option for beginner photographers
