Typical price: £350
What is it: High-end 12-megapixel compact with wideangle zoom
What we think: You're paying for the GX200's design and features, so don't expect any great jump in image quality

We like:
Small size; build quality; advanced controls; wideangle zoom
We don't like:
Expensive for a compact; performance good but not outstanding
CNET UK judgement:
Ricoh might not be one of the biggest names in photography, but it has a long history of camera manufacturing and its compact GR film camera earned a cult following. The GX200 offers the same blend of pocketability and power. Cheaper cameras can match its picture quality, though, so it's the build, handling and features you're paying for

Fuss-free compact that takes good photos given the price. Just don't expect too much from it

Good camera, but it's underspecified and overpriced, even compared to other IXUS models
Fujifilm FinePix S1500
Its lens and image quality aren't great, but it's a good option for beginner photographers
