Typical price: £160
What is it: Simple 8-megapixel compact with user-friendly features and long 5x zoom
What we think: Ignore the over-confident auto modes: there's a cracking budget camera to be found here

We like:
Big screen and zoom; decent build quality; smooth movies; price
We don't like:
No stabilisation; dumb 'smart' modes; little detail
CNET.co.uk judgement:
For a camera that is nowhere near as smart as it thinks it is, the Pentax Optio V20 nevertheless can produce some lovely, everyday snaps. The long lens adds value and the menu system is superb, especially at this fine price
