Typical price: £250
What is it: 10-megapixel performance compact with 7x zoom
What we think: Wide and long lens makes it worth diving headfirst into the simple menus for decent results

We like:
Endlessly tweakable; clean, accessible design; large screen; wide angle and large zoom lens
We don't like:
No full manual control
Also known as:
Ricoh Caplio R8
CNET UK judgement:
The Ricoh R8 may lack traditional manual controls, but it's still endlessly customisable even with a dead simple button and menu layout. The large screen, wide angle lens and long zoom make it worthwhile twiddling the menus to overcome some image issues.

Hands on with the Ricoh R8: Putting the R8 in gr8?
The Ricoh R8 apple has fallen far from the R7 tree, with this 10-megapixel point-and-shoot looking nothing like its predecessor. We like the 7.1x zoom and wealth of features
