Typical price: £300
What is it: 12-megapixel compact with manual exposure controls
What we think: A great camera for an amateur who doesn't want to make the leap to a dSLR

We like:
Great picture quality; manual exposure controls; flip-out screen
We don't like:
Sluggish performance; heavy and bulky; can't use a neck strap
CNET UK judgement:
Performance issues aside, the Canon PowerShot A650 IS combines large, good-looking photos and a generous feature set into a fine midrange shooter. Its great picture quality and wealth of features make this an excellent secondary camera. It's also perfect for an amateur shooter who isn't quite ready to step up to a dSLR
