Typical price: £500
What is it: Camcorder-style digital camera with 7-megapixel sensor and 10x optical zoom
What we think: Sure to turn heads, but it's awkward to use, and its still image quality isn't up to scratch

We like:
10x optical zoom; optical image stabilisation; 1,280x720-pixel, 30 frames per second HD video capture; very close-focusing SuperMacro mode
We don't like:
Extremely awkward design; so-so still image quality; sluggish performance; noisy at higher ISOs
CNET UK judgement:
The TX1's unique design is sure to turn heads, but it's also quite awkward to use, and its still image quality isn't up to Canon's usual standards
