Excellent dynamic range, color accuracy, and noise profiles; terrific continuous-shooting performance; feature set accommodates a variety of users
We don't like:
Nikon's RAW-file editing software costs extra; camera saves only one set of custom parameters
You might also need:
A CompactFlash Type I or II card or a Microdrive with a capacity of at least 256MB; Nikon Capture software for RAW file manipulation
