Comment: i have 2 questions, can i crop a picture in the a 35? how to use the histogram?
Good: Handling & Controls, Image Quality
Bad: No articulated screen - but forgivable!
Comment: I've had this camera for two weeks and have been able to give it a thorough trial whilst on holiday in Turkey. My digital cameras to date have all been compacts or superzooms, but I decided to take the plunge and trade in my old Minolta Dynax SLR film camera and move up in the quality digital world. First impression is that it is just so much easier to get that shot that you want with the very user friendly controls providing masses of versatility.
The TeleZoom continuous shooting mode allowed me to capture some great shots of a helicopter filling a water 'balloon' and releasing it across woodland as part of a fire training exercise, using a Signa 100-300mm lens. Some night scenes were perfectly exposed, Tricky backlit portraits with fill flash, close-ups of flowers using aperture priority to throw backgrounds out of focus, sweep shooting panoramas, quick snaps using auto mode ..... all have given some exceptionally pleasing results.
An articulated screen like it's predecessor the A33 would have perhaps been nice, but I can live without that, given that so much else is just spot on. Haven't really thrashed the video side of things yet but initial trials indicate that there's quality to be had there too.
Some pundits have questioned the use of an electronic viewfinder. Don't be put off by that - this implementation is superb!
Good: Small size plus quality results
Bad: No pivoting screen
Comment: I was really excited about this camera, ready to throw my wallet about, until the lack of a pivoting screen appeared. My Canon G12 screen gets used almost every time I switch the camera on, it's amazingly useful. So what's stopping me getting an existing Pivoting DSLR? They are ridiculously huge and the zoom range is so short you have to lug another lens, so you end up like a stupid Christmas tree in July. The small size of this Sony was ALMOST the solution. Any chance of a pivot screen in the upgrade?
