Good: Just about every thing
Bad: The zoom is extremely powerful, but when zooming in on very distant objects it can get a bit foggy. When zooming in on small objects the autofocus is strugeling a bit to keep up.
Comment: FZ-48 is not the nearest competitor, the FZ150 is.
The electronic viewfinder is quite OK, it even works at next to no light, slightly higher resolution on the monitor and viewfinder might be nice, but it's not a deal breaker.
35X zoom is not a camera, it's an astronomical telescope, I've taken pictures of 3 of Jupiters moons with it :)
Good: Just about everything
Bad: No RAW format
Comment: Excellent camera, a 35x Zoom with Splendid Image Stabilisation. I've only had it around two weeks but I've not been able to fault it. Considering it's a "Bridge" camera it does a very good impression of an SLR.
Comment: No CNET, the FZ48 does not have 35x zoom. And ofcourse the FZ48 is in price unbeatable however DMC-FZ48 but it's not "a natural compatitor"to the Canon SX40. It's cheaper but does not have the same features, like zoomrange, shoe for external flash, So it's not a fair comparison..
Panasonic DMC-FZ150, Sony's HX100V, Fuji's HS20 are natural compatitors in the same price-range. And even then the panasonic only offers 24x zoom (600mm) and Canon offers 35x zoom (840mm). Canon image-quality at higher ISO beats the IQ of the panasonic's. It's an important difference because working with these kind of lenses makes you need to work with higher ISO's more often.
The Panasonic is a little faster on focussing, so for sports etc. this might be an advantage over the Canon.
I think CNET should consider rewriting "How does it compare". Get your facts right, and make an honest comparison, with camera on the same level of features and the same price range.
