Good: Lots of flexibilty, face detection, effective IS, manual menu, operating speed, build, accurate colours
Bad: Initial complexity of intuitive options, lack of faster and wider lens, small CCD
Comment: This is the only prosumer camera you can reasonably pocket (the size and thickness of 2 audio cassette boxes). The camera is responsive and flexible having a useful control wheel. It still continues the curse of digital CCDs - noticeable low-light noise (@ 400 ISO+) but is currently slightly better than most of its more compact competitors. The logic of designing a 6x zoom (@ the fashionable 10 mpx level) which begins at 35mm and necessitates a whopping and overly expensive bolt-on wide-angle adaptor and tube, is bizarre and painfully anachronistic. The much documented absence of RAW is extremely sad for purchasers in the obvious target group. Nonetheless, there are simply no current competitors at the end of 2006. This camera is sturdy, controllable and sophisticated yet doesn't quite win the serious photographer's vote as anything more than a second camera.
Good colour and a sensible balance between noise and sharpness make the G7 an inevitable compromise from what it might have been, yet for its size it is the only kid on the block!

Good: Speed to first frame and low light capability
Bad: Does not use 4 x AA batteries - easily found when travelling
Comment: A great camera - just wish I could get hold of one!
