Good: mkv playback!
Bad: quite long start up time, menus
Comment: i bought this for its mkv playback, which it does extremely well, either from the usb port or burnt to a disk. ive no idea why the reviewer couldnt play any mkvs but ive watched dozens with no problems whatsoever.... maybe the reviewer had a defective unit or toshiba have updated the firmware on newer models?
i hope the innaccurate review hasnt put off any potential buyers and that cnet will rectify their comments.
i agree about the menus. its also quite a mission to find out basic information while watching a movie, such as the remaining time. personally id like to be able to access the time with only one or two button presses but it requires navigating several menus before getting the information. a minor niggle though.
this is an excellant bluray player which i would highly recommend to anyone wanting a budget player
