Goodbye 2006, it's been emotional
So I'm back from Las Vegas and fully charged up for the year ahead. But before I finish writing up all the CES kit and craving all the new mobile phones on offer in 2007, I want to have a look back at some of the memorable moments of 2006.
One of the most stylish phones we got in was the LG Chocolate, which will remain a design classic. Even though it proved a little awkward to use, it still holds a firm place in the 2006 hall of phone.
The retro cool Samsung P300 looked like a calculator and measured an impressively thin 9mm in depth. This phone was, and still is, one of my personal favourites, and it's sad to see that Samsung didn't stick with the funky design.
I'll never forget the Nokia N-Series unveiling in Berlin, featuring the N72, N73 and N93, as it was the first time Nokia told me personally that it isn't making phones, it's making 'multimedia computers'.
The Sony Ericsson K800i took camera phones to the next level, featuring a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus and xenon flash. Even though several phones have come out with similar specs and higher resolution cameras, I still rate this as a great camera phone.
HTC's TyTN impressed many smart phone users and left me wanting more HTC devices -- featuring Wi-Fi and HSDPA connectivity this beast of a phone made connecting to the Internet very fast.
A quick trip to Korea with Samsung and a hands-on with phones like the Samsung X820 and WiMax handsets showed me that Samsung is taking mobile technology right to the cutting edge. Samsung's mobile division started off small but is quickly proving to be a big player, both in Korea and over here.
There's not enough space to mention all the cool phones I've seen -- these are just a few. It certainly was a great year for mobile technology and 2007 looks very bright indeed.
