Hi there I'm Nate Lanxon and today we're getting hot and saucy with the new Klipsch iGroove SXT. As you might've guessed, it's an iPod speaker system, so you stick you iPod in here and sound comes out of here. It's a relatively inexpensive setup at around a hundred quid, but it comes from a high-end speaker manufacturer called Klipsch. It makes a load of audiophile gear normally, but its lent its expertise to helping the iPod which has for a while been capable of producing impressive audio in lossless CD-quality.
It could be seen as an alternative to the Bose SoundDock which costs enough to have a Z-list celebrity whacked, but really it does sound amazing -- err, the sounddock, not the killing of celebrities. But the iGroove SXT really stands on its own as being a great sounding dock without the less great sounding price attached to some. It's got a fair bit of power, too. Probably enough for a bedroom, though it'll be no replacement for a hi-fi in your front room.
Build quality is superb. It weighs a hell of a lot for such a small system but it backs up this weight with an extremely sturdy design, and there're some physical volume and power controls on the top, so you needn't mess around with the little remote control that comes in the box. Good news for all concerned then.
Behind these grilles are four drivers in total: 2 woofers and two tweeters. From these you'll get a really warm sound with impressive bass, although if you're into your hardcore dance you'll want to skip the world of iPod docks and grab yourself something with a sub hooked up to it. Rock, pop, a bit of metal and some singer/songwriter stuff really did sound terrific through the SXT, and its ability to drive to fairly high volume was good too, especially for a system with such an entry level price.
There's even a line-in socket around the back here if you don't have an iPod! We've got our full review up on the site now. I'm Nate Lanxon and this is the Klipsch iGroove SXT.
An extremely likeable iPod system, with a superb build and great sound quality considering the price. It's ideal for students and wouldn't be out of place in a bedroom. It's no hi-fi alternative, but for £100 it's very good indeed
