The speakers that came with your PC are almost certainly going to be rubbish. Because most are. But today we're going to look at the slickest audiophile PC speakers you can buy, and they're going to cost you about 400 quid. I'm Nate Lanxon and this setup is the Eclipse TD307PA II -- not the most memorable of names but not something you should get hung up on for too long.
These gorgeous, glossy egg-shaped speakers are the result of some seriously impressive internal engineering. They've been worked in a way to make sure the enclosures themselves don't colour the overall sound even the slightest bit. The speaker driver itself isn't even connected to the enclosure. Instead, it's mounted directly to the stand down here. Air pushed around behind the driver exits the speaker through this exhaust port at the back.
As part of the package you get this pyramid-styled amplifier that'll pump 12W into the speakers. It too have been worked to eliminate noise contaminating the final sound that audiophiles crave, and it looks pretty stunning too. Plus, stereo inputs sit around the back so you can easily hook up your iPod should you want to.
These are incredibly quick speakers, ideal for use as reference monitors if you're into mixing your own music at home. Sound quality is exceptional too, although they're temperamental at very high volume. But they produce a crisp and realistic sound, far above anything you'll have previously plugged into your computer, unless of course you've wired it up to a powerful hi-fi. If that's the case, Eclipse do a full size version of these little eggs which you should probably check out too.
For £400, you're going to pay for audiophile desktop audio, but if you need the very best sound from that new laptop, it's £400 you may find well spent. I'm Nate Lanxon and these are the Eclipse TD307PA IIs.
The desktop speakers for the audio purist, but an expensive option. The inability to retain audio quality at very high volumes may anger anyone looking to invest in a powerful all-rounder, but audiophiles, home recordists and purists after sonic accuracy will consider this a good investment
