Hi I'm Nate Lanxon and today I'm going to show you the best iPod-docking speaker system I've ever seen, or heard. It's taken its sweet time for this expensive piece of audio treasure to sail -- or in fact fly -- to the UK market, but it's here and it's SO worth the wait.
It's a £400 whopper, built by a British loudspeaker manufacturer and inspired by the design of old-fashioned airships. Yes, it's the Bowers and Wilkins Zeppelin. It's one of the best-sounding dedicated iPod docks out there, in our opinion, and it comes from the company who built a speaker modeled after a deep sea sephalopod, the Nautilus, costing tens of thousands of pounds.
This model though is much cheaper but invokes some of the same skill gone into producing one of the best loudspeakers in history. The iPod docks into the front here and can be controlled with this miniscule, yet attractive little remote control. Although we can't show you, behind the veil are five separate drivers: one 50W sub, two 25W mid-ranges and a pair of little tweeters on either edge.
But the real proof that this is a system worth £400 lies within the sound, and it sounds terrific. There's amazing bass, loads of punchiness is the mid-range and the brightness and vibrance in the high-end is immediately noticeable. And this performance is retained even at high volume.
Check out our review which is live on CNET.co.uk now, and if you get chance to try one of these out in person, you're in for a treat.
I'm Nate Lanxon and this is the Bowers and Wilkins Zeppelin.
The Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin effectively combines substantial build quality and detailed sound -- but you're still paying a hefty premium for the iPod speaker's stunning good looks
